What is psychological assessment?

Psychologists use tests and other assessment tools to aid in the understanding of person’s behavior, personality, and capabilities.

Why should I complete psychological testing? 

Testing is used to provide valuable insights and determine an individual’s strengths and limitations. This information can then be used to evaluate needs and aid in providing the appropriate resources and/or treatment to the individual. Psychological assessment if often requested by employer, during legal cases and when applying for some government benefits.

 What should I expect with psychological testing?

  • Testing is usually done in a psychologist’s office 

  • Depending upon what kind of testing is being done, it can last anywhere from one hour to multiple days

  • Testing consists of a brief interview and completion of testing that may be: interactive in nature, be completed with paper-and-pencil or completed on easy to use computer programs.

  • Individuals may be asked questions regarding personal and childhood history, recent life experiences, work and school history and family background

  • Individuals will be asked to take part in psychological testing and perform to their best ability. Psychological testing is not a measure of pass/fail, but rather an opportunity to gather more knowledge and insight into the individual
